Is it possible to revive this community?
I m gonna try to start it. Anyone? Anyone?
Let me introduce myself, Im from NYC and I am 29 yrs old and Ive been listening to Doo-Wop since I was a wee little one, my father is a big fan he grew up with it in Brooklyn. My favorite groups are The Channels, The Dominoes, The Diablos, The Spaniels and many more. I also enjoy rhythm and blues gospel where most groups got their start. The Swan Silvertones, the Highway QC's etc. Current Mood: awake

Lonely blue nights
So I don't know why I joined this community since no one's posted since March, but probably I did for the same reason the rest of you did... I'm lonely. No one understands my doo wop fixation.
I'm nineteen and anyone who listens to "oldies" at my age just goes on and on about the Rolling Stones or something, which honestly I couldn't care less about. I have to admit I like some pretty corny stuff, like Conway Twitty, but I just don't want to hear about Woodstock anymore. I mostly like stuff pre-English invasion probably. Brenda Lee's "I'm Sorry" is definitely the song that made me completely obsessed with doo wop and oldies. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of The Paris Sisters and The Chantays. I could talk about individual songs endlessly.

Anyone heard Kid Kyle sing? He's a 13 year old doo wop singer. I just heard him sing on the PBS special MY MUSIC: DOO WOP LOVE SONGS. He sang the song "I'm So Young" with the original Students.
He was pretty amazing. He did the Tony Danza show when he was 11 and sang the same song. Here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sD17DAaY-M
I hope he doesn't change too much when he hits puberty but I am pretty sure it will which is a shame.

Cool Community...Gift : Doo Wop Mix
I am happy there is a community for the music that I grew up with. Granted I'm 26 years old. But I say I grew up with because my Dad constantly played Doo Wop, 50's and 60's music. I have loved Doo Wop since as long as I can remember.
So as a little gift to this kick ass community I just recently made myself and my Dad a Doo Wop mix. This took me about two weeks to get a mix my Dad and myself liked and also to do the art.
It turned out pretty good I must say. My dad loves the mix he repeats this mix on his ipod.
So I thought I'd share.
Hope you all like it. ( TO THE DOO WOP MIXCollapse )

Hey everybody i just joined, and although i wouldnt say Doo Wop is exactly what i like. I do like most 50's and 60's music. I got into by listening to surf, but then there is just so many other good bands it sucked me in. I host a radio program at my college. So if you live near Elmhurst, IL then tune into 88.7 for Frankie Cool and the best there is in rock and roll. Its actualyl an increible weak frequency, so probably no one wil be able to get it. We're workign on gettign it online, i will post again when we do. I play everything from the Beach Boys to Flash Cadillac to Junior Walker.

I am not alone!
Since I was about 9 years old I have been obsessed not only with oldies(doo-wop), but with the 40's and 50's in general. All of my friends listened to punk rock, and gave me shit for being a simple fun loving doo-wop fan. I am so glad to see all you cats out there that see what I have seen in our past that does and should live on and on.... ROCK'N'ROLL EVERYONE!! Current Mood: excited

So I'm an apprentice at WHRW, the Binghamton radio station, and I have access to the largest record library on the east coast. (Ok, I'm on a total power trip kids, it's not my fault.)
Although I know no one here is from Binghamton, I was just wondering what doo-wop songs would really make your day if you were driving in your car and tuned in.
So tell me...
this really bugs me how no updates in here but me. Current Mood: blah

i just cleaned my house...that was good times. hmm...OH my boyfriend painted a skull and crossbones on the back of his 2 tone green '59 oldsmobile. its pretty rad lookin. all the old people look at us thinking "oh look at that cute couple, they dress like there in the 50's..." then they see the skull and crossbones and get sorta freaked out. its great!!!
haha today on our way home from school.....i looked out the window...and a "retarded" kid pulled his pants down TO HIS KNEES and was peeing...then reached around and scratched his little downsyndrom butt. it was hilarious. and his gaurdian was standong right there just watching him pee..i wanted to die...everyone was honking. you dont see something like that everyday...
